Profile of Adrian Fisher
Adrian Fisher is internationally recognised as the world's leading maze designer, having created more than 500 full-size mazes across 30 countries. Named by The Guardian newspaper as one of Britain's top 50 designers, Adrian Fisher is an international garden design Gold Medallist, and the most prolific and innovative maze designer in the history of mankind.
His company has created 35 mirror mazes, half the world’s new mirror mazes since 1991. He designed the world’s first cornfield maize maze in 1993 and hundreds since, and has set 6 Guinness World Records. He is the most prolific designer of hedge mazes in the history of gardening, and has invented Water Mazes, Walk-through Parting Waterfalls and Foaming Fountain Gates in mazes.
Since 1979, Adrian has designed and created over 500 full-size mazes in the grounds of palaces, castles, stately homes, zoos, wildlife parks, amusement parks, children's museums, science centers, universities, schools, city centres and farms.
He received the 2003 Risorgimento Award at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, “in recognition of those who have demonstrated outstanding creativity, who have and will continue to change the world in which we live”. Previous recipients of the Resorgimento Award have included NASA, The Disney Company and Velcro Corporation; he is the first European to receive the award. He has written over a dozen books, and broadcasts extensively on television and radio; there have been art exhibitions of his work on both sides of the Atlantic. He is an accomplished public speaker and photographer.
He designs puzzles for the World Puzzle Championships, and has had over 1,000 puzzles and Colour Mazes published internationally in magazines and newspapers, including The Times, Country Life, Radio Times and the Daily Mail.
He is fascinated by networks and patterns. He developed a new kind of bus map for London Transport, has invented and patented new paving and tiling systems, and is currently creating a 23 ft high mosaic for a Science and Tecnology centre in England.
Adrian lives in Dorset, England with his wife Marie, his co-Director. He was born in England in 1951, trained as a management consultant, is a Freeman of the City of London, and a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Gardeners of London.
He has a great talent for design and innovation. His appreciation for landscape, his aptitude for mathematics and three-dimensional space, and his love of history and the arts, all combined to prepare him for his extraordinary vocation of designing and creating unique and beautiful mazes all over the world.
